By all indications, the incoming Biden/Harris Administration will move quickly to reestablish the U.S.’ leading role in refugee resettlement and will adhere to international treaties and domestic laws regarding the treatment of asylum seekers and unaccompanied children in migration. The challenge for LIRS and our partners will be to reinvigorate and grow our infrastructure and capacity in time to meet the anticipated increase in demand for our programs and services. This will require expanding our geographic reach, hiring and training staff, reengaging our community partners, and growing our volunteer rosters. However, we mustn’t let this growth in our existing programs and services lull us into a sense of complacency. There are other ways we can assist our clients on their American journey, and four years go by in no time at all.
