Trump's Controversial Leader Of The Department Of Homeland Security Has Resigned
Hamed Aleaziz, BuzzFeed News
Chad Wolf, the acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said he is resigning late Monday, more than a year after being selected for the role by President Donald Trump. Wolf’s resignation marks the end of a tumultuous run for DHS during the Trump administration. Wolf led an agency that has seen an unprecedented level of turnover during the last several years and has a slew of acting leaders in key positions. His resignation ensures that the department will have its sixth leader under Trump, who last week withdrew Wolf’s nomination to the Senate. Pete Gaynor, the acting head of FEMA, will now lead the DHS until the Biden administration takes over next week.

Todd J. Gillman, Dallas News

Immigrants lacked soap as Covid spread at ICE detention centers, report finds
Amanda Holpuch, The Guardian
Immigrants lacked access to the most basic Covid-19 prevention measures, such as soap for hand-washing, and were retaliated against for raising safety concerns as the pandemic spread through detention facilities last year, according to a new report on the grim conditions at US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities. ICE, which oversees immigration detention, created unacceptable health risks and violated constitutional and human rights during the pandemic, said researchers from Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) and Harvard Medical School, who interviewed 50 former detainees for the report.
