COVID Legislation
LIRS, Lutheran Services in America and bishops from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America called on our leaders to protect vulnerable refugees and migrants through COVID-19 legislation. We believe immigrant families must be able to obtain the care and help they need during this public health emergency without fear or confusion.
NO BAN Act
LIRS worked with the ELCA to express their support for the NO BAN Act. In a letter sent to Members of Congress, 44 ELCA bishops stated their concern with the expansion of travel restrictions introduced by the Trump administration on Jan. 31 and encouraged the passage of the NO BAN Act.
FY21 Presidential Determination
LIRS, Lutheran Services In America, and 243 leaders from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America urged President Trump and Secretary Pompeo to resettle at least 95,000 refugees in fiscal year 2021.
US Citizenship Act of 2021
LIRS, Lutheran Services in America, Presiding Bishop Eaton and 568 ministers from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in American urge elected officials to address long-overdue reforms to U.S. immigration policy and called for the timely passage of the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021.
